Speak2Me

Speak2Me was founded in 2020, by two like-minded speech-language therapists who share the same vision that no one should be left out in the communities we live in. We provide specialised speech-language therapy for children and adults. Our focus is to facilitate effective communication skills for greater participation in the community on an equal basis with others.

MEET OUR TEAM

Tey Shi Rou

Shi Rou obtained her bachelor’s degree in Speech Sciences from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia. Upon graduation, she quickly identified her interest in hearing loss and joined the early intervention clinic for children with hearing loss, Pusat TUTUR UKM, in 2014. In 2015, she joined the Institute of Ear, Hearing and Speech (Institute-HEARS) at UKM, where she continued providing her services until 2019, before setting up her own practice, Speak2Me.

Shi Rou is the first speech-language therapist in Malaysia to become a certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT), as accredited by the AG Bell Academy, United States. She is deeply passionate about the field, finding joy in guiding children with hearing loss and their families on their journey to discover the world of sound. In addition to providing individual Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) to children with hearing loss, Shi Rou also enjoys sharing her experiences and knowledge with parents and professionals through workshops, lectures, and clinical mentorship.

She was elected Assistant Honorary Secretary of the Malaysian Association of Speech-Language and Hearing (MASH) for two terms, from 2016 to 2020. During her tenure, she led projects aimed at raising public awareness of the profession, such as radio interviews and article publications in local print media. Shi Rou is also an AVT trainer and mentor for the UKM Auditory-Verbal Professional Certification Course, where she provides lectures and clinical mentorship to speech-language therapists and audiologists from around the region, including Singapore, Brunei, Pakistan, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Chan Min Yen

Min Yen has been practicing as a speech-language therapist since 2013. She received her bachelor’s degree in Speech Sciences and completed a Master of Health Science (Hearing & Speech) related to Parkinson’s disease at UKM.

She worked at University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) before venturing into private practice. She worked as a part-timer speech-language therapist at KPJ Tawakkal Health Centre KL from 2015-2020. After establishing her own private practice, Min Yen provides mainly house-call services while attending referrals from private hospitals and nursing homes. She also provides inpatient services at Assunta Hospital under Speech Haven Enterprise.

She is fluent in Mandarin, English, Malay, Cantonese and some Hokkien.

Min Yen is actively involved in Malaysian Association of Speech-language and Hearing (MASH), a local professional body representing speech-language therapists and audiologists. She was one of the 2018-2020 Executive Committee members who was tasked to lead the Portfolio Membership. She was re-elected to hold the same position for a second term (2020-2022).

Oo Kah Peng

Ms Oo Kah Pheng graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2001 with a Bachelor of Speech Sciences and earned her Master’s degree in year 2015 at the same university.
Ms Oo fell in love with oral motor therapy after learning from the oral placement therapy ‘guru’ – Ms Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson in 2006 when Ms Sara travelled to Malaysia (that was the only Southeast Asia trip for Ms Sara).Ms Oo then started to venture into the oral motor world by attending courses and learning actively from the experts e.g. Ms Debra Beckman, Ms Lori Overland, Ms Robyn Merkel-Walsh, Ms. Renee Roy Hill, Ms. Suzanne Evans Morris, Ms. Marsha Dunn Klein, Ms Patricia Oetter, PROMPT and others.

Ms Oo actively using the unique ways to help infants and children to eat and drink safely. She started looking into orofacial myofunctional therapy in 2021 to complete her understanding of complex muscles in breathing, eating and swallowing. She likes to share her knowledge and experience with parents, professionals and the public via workshops, talks, lectures and mentorship.
